Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University 6-1 today at Weequahic Park. The Roadrunners improve to 21-11 overall and 11-4 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 12-17 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
Rutgers-Newark took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Kevin Tamsula plated Connor Clare with a sac fly to center field.
The Roadrunners would take the lead in the fifth inning as they scored five runs on four hits.
Kyle Lisa walked with one out before
Philip Mahlik singled through the right side of the infield.
Anthony Kuzmenko then drove home Lisa to tie the game, 1-1 with a single to center before
Liam Duffy singled to load the bases. An error off allowed Ramapo to take a 2-1 lead before a bases loaded hit by pitch to
Kyle Buser forced home Kuzmenko, 3-1.
Matt Carovillano came up big with a two-out two RBI single to right field pushing the score, 5-1.
In the sixth, Lisa led off with a double down the left field line before Mahlik drove him home with a hard-hit single to center, 6-1.
Ramapo starting pitcher
Kevin Stewart (5-0) struck out 11 in eight innings of work while he walked just two and scattered two hits.
Kyle Haag worked the ninth inning in relief with one strikeout, one walk while surrendering no hits.
Mahlik led the team at the plate finishing 3-5 with one run scored and one RBI while Duffy and Lisa each collected two hits.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm as they host Rutgers-Newark University two wrap up the home-and-home NJAC series.
