MINCHIN LEADS RAMAPO IN NJAC WIN OVER WPU

Wayne, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated the William Paterson Pioneers on the road today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up, 58-49.  The Roadrunners improve to 10-14 overall, 5-12 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 12-12 overall, 8-9 in the NJAC.
 
Ramapo hit 18-42 (42.9%) from the field and 20-28 (71.4%) from the line.  The team was led by Sarah Minchin netting 11 points and dishing out three assists and Jenna Harsh with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Tia Solomon collected 14 rebounds for the team and had eight points.  The Pioneers shot 18-73 (24.7%) from the field and 9-17 (52.9%) from the line and were led by Julie Rovito with 18 points.  CeCe Green added ten points and nine rebounds, and Alisa Giordano collected six points and four assists.     
 
The Roadrunners started the first half with a 9-1 run capped off with a layup from Alie Wickersheim with 3:36 on the clock, 9-3.  William Paterson would make back-to-back baskets from Brianna Brooks and Giordano to close the gap to one, 8-9.  The two teams traded baskets over the remainder of the first quarter.  Green would go on to make the first basket of the second quarter for the Pioneers to tie the game at 13.   With 3:26 left in the half Solomon would capitalize on an and-one play to put the Roadrunners on top by six, 23-17.  Green would sink a three-point shot at the buzzer to bring the Pioneers within three to head into the locker room trailing 22-25.  
 
Samantha Rinaldi sparked a 9-0 run for the Roadrunners to start the second half which was capped off by a three-point shot from Cherie Smedile, 34-22.  With one minute remaining in the third quarter, Rovito made a layup followed by eight more consecutive points to bring the Pioneers within three, 36-39.  The two teams played offensively even before Harsh and Solomon made back-to-back baskets sparking an 8-2 run for the Roadrunners to go up, 51-41.  The two teams would go on to trade free-throws and with just over 30 seconds left to play, Smedile would make a jump shot keeping the Roadrunners up by ten.  Rovito answered back with a layup for the Pioneers, 47-55 and Smedile netted the final point in the game off a free-throw to give the Roadrunners the 58-49 victory.   
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 13 for Senior Night at 5:30pm with a NJAC match-up against New Jersey City University at 5:30pm.
