Galloway, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team picked up a key NJAC road win over Stockton University today 60-53. The Roadrunners improve to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Ospreys now stand at 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
It was two different halves in the game while Ramapo came back in the third and fourth quarters to earn their 8th win of the season.
Jenna Harsh led the team with 18 points including two three-pointers while
Alie Wickersheim tacked on 11 points and six rebounds of her own.
Cherie Smedile would come off the bench for the Roadrunners and tally nine points, all three-pointers. The team shot 36% (19-52) from the field, 41% (5-12) from the three-point line and 60% (17-28) from the free throw line.
Stockton opened the game on a 9-0 run capped off by a made basket from Lajerah Writght before the Roadrunners got on the board in the board with a free throw from Wickersheim with 7:01 on the clock. A free throw from Wickersheim and a jumper from Harsh would cut the Osprey lead to 9-4 before Wright nailed a three-pointer for a 12-4 score with 4:19 left in the first quarter. Harsh would sink a three-pointer of her own 7-12 before Stockton ended the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 17-8 lead into the second. The two teams traded baskets over the first four minutes of action as Stockton held a 21-11 lead with 6:22 left to play. Ramapo would go on an 8-3 run as
Abbegail Whildin and Wickersheim each collected four points over the next four minutes of play. The run was capped off with a basket from Wickersheim as Ramapo closed the gap 20-26 with 1:10 left in the second quarter. Kiley Gelston tacked on a basket for Stockton before Sara Minchin converted a pair of free throws to end the second quarter down six 22-28.
In the third, Stockton started the scoring with a made free throw before Ramapo tallied six straight points.
Samantha Rinaldi posted back-to-back baskets while Wickersheim added a jumper of her own to come within one 28-29 with under 7:50 left in the quarter. Stockton countered with an eight-point run of their own to stretch the lead 37-28 with less than five minutes left on the clock. Ramapo took the lead in the final seconds of the game as Smedile tallied three three-pointers over the final 4:23 in the quarter to put Ramapo up 41-39.
Harsh continued the scoring for Ramapo in the fourth quarter as she sank a three-pointer of her own for a 44-39 lead. The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes of action as Ramapo held onto a 49-45 lead with just under five minutes left to play in the game. Emily Donzanti scored a jumper for the Ospreys to come within two 47-49 before the Roadrunners added four points to Stockton's two for a 53-49 lead with less than three minutes on the clock. Hailee Porricelli cut the Ramapo lead to three with 1:36 on the clock with a three-pointer 52-55 before Armanee DeBarry cut it to 53-55 with a free throw (1:07). Ramapo would close out the game on a 5-0 run as Rinaldi hit a jumper while
Stacey Porzl tallied three points from the charity stripe as Ramapo came away with the come from behind victory 59-53.
Stockton was led by Donzanti who tallied 13 points while Gelston and Porricelli each posted nine points. The team shot 35% (19-53) from the field, 22% (2-18) from the three-point line and 42% (11-26) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, December 11th when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC game at 6pm. The Cougars are holding a canned food drive, bring three cans of food to the game and enter free!
