Riverdale, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team traveled to the College of Mt. St. Vincent tonight where they posted their second win of the season, 73-48 to improve to 2-0 overall. With the loss MSV opens the 2019-2020 season at 0-1.
Ramapo was led by Alie Wickersheim who posted 18 points shooting 8-15 from the field while Cherie Smedile recorded 14 points and Jessica Repasy added 12 shooting 5-10 and 6-10 respectively. Wickersheim grabbed 15 rebounds and Repasy led with four assists while Wickersheim grabbed three steals. The team shot a combined 30-57 (53%) in the win ahead of MSV's 15-53 (28%). The Dolphins were led by Aria Rheams with 19 points and DarNeisha Brice added ten. Rheams led with seven rebounds and three steals. Brice dished out three assists.
The Roadrunners opened to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter of play before pulling ahead by 11, 35-24 at the halftime buzzer. The Roadrunners nailed down three three-point goals in the first two quarters as they began to spread their lead at the end of the first with a mini 6-0 run sparked by Wickersheim and capped by Stacey Porzl with five seconds to play. The Dolphins would come within three in the second but an offensive spark by Ramapo saw them on top, 31-20 with four minutes to play in the second with a jumper from Smedile. The Roadrunners never looked back the remainder of the game as they closed out the face off on top, 73-48 for the non-conference win. The lead changed four times in the game and Ramapo's biggest advantage was in the fourth quarter with two good free throws from Kaity Potter to go ahead, 26 (73-47).
Ramapo returns to action on Friday, November 15th when they host the opening rounds of the 2019 Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament. Ramapo will face off with Bryn Athyn at 7:30pm while Farmingdale State and Johnson and Wales will face off at 5:30pm. The winners will play for the trophy on Saturday at 2pm while a consolation match-up will be played at noon.
