Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20) in a key NJAC match-up tonight at the Bradley Center. The Cougars improve to 17-7 overall and 5-1 in the conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 9-3 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC.
After winning the first two sets, the Cougars fell to Ramapo 25-19 before holding off the Roadrunners in the fourth set to claim the NJAC road victory. Jesse Larkin and Zoe Strozewski led Kean on offense with 15 and 14 kills respectively. Larkin tallied three total blocks including one solo while Strozewski posted a team high four blocks of her own. Brianna Calvano dished out a team high 45 assists while she collected 14 digs. On defense, Kortnee Nelson led the way with 24 digs while she recorded three assists and two aces. Kayla Thornton posted eight kills, two blocks and two digs while the team put down 54 total kills in the match hitting .158 overall.
For the Roadrunners,
Morgan Ridgway and
Hannah Frascella each collected 13 kills to lead the team while
Stephanie Ross recorded seven on the night.
Samantha Main and
Caleigh Golabek recorded two kills apiece while Main tallied two solo blocks and one assisted block and Golabek posted four total blocks including one solo. On defense, two Roadrunners collected over 20 digs as
Karina Almeda led the team with 24 and Ridgway added 22 in the match.
Kate Shirkey dished out a team high 25 assists and 15 digs while
Sara Correa collected 11 of her own along with 11 digs. As a team the Roadrunners tallied 44 kills hitting .110 in the match.
Ramapo will return to action on Thursday, October 17th when they travel to Stockton University for a NJAC match at 7pm.
