Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today at the Bradley Center 74-68 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. The Roadrunners fall to 9-11 overall, 4-9 in the NJAC while the Profs improve to 13-7 overall, 11-2 in the conference.
The Roadrunners hit 22-54 (40.7%) from the field and 18-22 (81.8%) from the line.
Cherie Smedile recorded a season high today with 21 points,
Jenna Harsh netted 17 points and nine rebounds, while
Jessica Repasy collected 10 rebounds. The Profs shot 28-78 (35.9%) from the field and 10-20 (50%) from the line. Rowan University was led by Alexis Kriley with 23 points, Dominique Peters posted 17 points and eight rebounds, Olivia Rulon posted 16 points, and Jenna Hoffner collected nine rebounds.
The Profs took an early lead over the Roadrunners going on a 19-0 run over 4:47 of play behind 10 points from Peters, 21-2. The two teams traded baskets over the final minutes of play in the quarter with Rowan on top 26-8. The Roadrunners started the second period adding six points to the board with two free-throws from
Tia Solomon and a jump shot from Smedile, 26-12. Rowan went on a 9-0 run capped off by a three-point shot by Kriley, to extend their lead to 14. With 4:58 left in the half the Roadrunners would make back to back baskets from
Kaity Potter and Repasy, 21-41. Harsh would make the last basket of the half with 1:01 left on the clock, 29-46.
Rowan University opened up the second half tacking on seven points extending their lead to 24. The Roadrunners would then control the remainder of the period going on a 15-1 run sparked by a pair of free-throws from Potter. A jump shot from Smedlie would bring Ramapo within 10 points of Rowan, 44-54 to close out the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Roadrunners would go on a 7-0 run over 2:08 of play behind five points from Smedlie to close the gap to five, 53-58. Nicole Byrne would sink a three-pointer to put the Profs on top by 10 with 4:37 remaining in the game. The two teams would trade baskets before Smedile would hit a key three point shot to bring the Roadrunners within six points, 63-69. Rowan's Olivia Rulon answered back with a jump shot before Rinaldi hit a pair of free-throws at the one-minute mark, 65-71.
Amber Sagan netted a three-point shot with 0:38 seconds left to tick off the clock to put the Roadrunners within four, 68-72. Rowan tacked on two more points off free-throws from Kailyn Sytsma to end the game, 74-68.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Wednesday, January 30 when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC conference game at 6pm.
