HARSH AND SOLOMON LEAD RAMAPO TO NJAC WIN OVER STOCKTON

Galloway, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated the Ospreys of Stockton University today 51-48 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.  The Roadrunners advance to 9-9 overall, 4-7 in the NJAC while the Ospreys fall to 4-14 overall, 1-10 in the conference. 
 
Ramapo shot 16-46 (34.8%) from the field and 14-24 (58.3%) from the line with two players having double-doubles.  Jenna Harsh led the team with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and one steal.  Tia Solomon collected 13 points and ten rebounds while Samantha Rinaldi netted eight points and dished out five assists.  For the Ospreys, April Peterson netted 18 points and eight rebounds while Natalie Miller collected nine points and Emily Donzanti had nine points and dished out five assists.  Stockton University shot 16-55 (29.1%) from the field and 12-15 (80%) from the line.    
 
The Roadrunners jumped to a 5-0 lead when Cherie Smedile nailed a three-point shot with 8:02 on the clock.  Peterson brought the Ospreys within one point after netting two free throws, 4-5.  The two teams traded baskets over the next six minutes of play.  The Roadrunners went up, 16-11 when Solomon made a layup with seven seconds left in the period.  Peterson answered back with a three-point shot at the buzzer to bring the Ospreys within two, 14-16.  Stockton would get the first two points in the second period off two free-throws by Peterson to tie the game at 16.  The Roadrunners went on a mini 5-0 run capped off with 3:35 left to play in the half by a pair of free-throws from Alie Wickersheim, 23-18.  Madison Noordeloos would then spark a 6-0 run for the Ospreys making the first shot off a two-shot foul.  With 1:33 left to play in the period Noordeloos would cap off the run with two more from the line to give the Ospreys a one-point lead 24-23.  Solomon would capitalize on an and-one play giving Ramapo a two-point lead with 48 seconds remaining.  A layup from Noordeloos would tie the game at 26 to end the half.
 
Over the two periods of play the Roadrunners hit 10-24 (41.7%) and the Ospreys shot 9-29 (31%).  Solomon led Ramapo with 11 points and five rebounds while Peterson led Stockton netting 11 and three rebounds.
 
Peterson collected her 13th point of the game at the beginning of the third quarter on a layup, putting the Ospreys on top, 28-26.  With 5:54 remaining in the period, Colleen Brady started a 7-0 run for Stockton with a layup.  The run was capped off by Lajerah Wright on an and-one play to put the Ospreys up 38-29.  Harsh would bring the Roadrunners within five on a layup with 1:31 left in the quarter, 35-40.  Peterson tacked on two more for the Ospreys at the start of the fourth quarter, 43-35.  The Roadrunners would then capitalize on a 10-0 run to take the lead from the Ospreys when Kaity Potter made both of her free-throws, 45-43 with 4:16 remaining in the game.  Peterson answered back for Stockton with a layup to tie the game at 45.  Rinaldi sank a three-point shot to take the lead for the Roadrunners 48-45 with 3:16 left to play.  With 22 seconds on the clock the Ospreys would send Rinaldi to the line allowing the Roadrunners to tack on two more points, 50-45.  Miller would hit a three-point shot bringing Stockton within two, 48-50, in the last 15 seconds of play.  Rinaldi would go to the line to add one more point to the board for the Roadrunners taking the win, 51-48.
 
In the second half, Ramapo shot 9-30 (30%) and Stockton hit 9-32 (28.1%).  Harsh led the Roadrunners with 12 points and seven rebounds while Peterson and Donzanti each collected seven points for the Ospreys. 
 
The Roadrunners return to action Wednesday, January 23 when they take on Montclair State University at home at 5:30pm.
