#2 RAMAPO DEFEATS #1 TCNJ IN NJAC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT ACTION

Union, NJ: #2 The Ramapo College baseball team defeated #1 College of New Jersey in an elimination game in the 2018 NJAC Baseball Tournament 7-3. The Roadrunners (31-12) advance to play in game nine of the tournament against #4 Rowan University tonight at 7pm. The Lions (28-9) will now wait to see if they earn one of 16 at-large bids when the 2018 NCAA Tournament bracket is announced on Sunday, May 13th.
 
The Roadrunners scored one or more runs in the first four innings of action. In the first inning Vincenzo Sita laced a double down the right field line which allowed Austin Unglaub and Joe Maugeri to score 2-0, each reached base on walks earlier in the inning.
 
In the top of the second inning, TCNJ got on the board when Tommy McCarthy led off with a first pitch home run over the right field fence to cut the Roadrunner lead in half 2-1. In the bottom half of the inning, Kyle Buser and Liam Duffy walked before they advanced one base on a sac bunt from Matt Chemis. Unglaub loaded the bases with a walk of his own before Anthony Kuzmenko poked a single into left field plating Buser. Maugeri then then laced a single through the left side of the infield as Duffy touched home plate before Unglaub scored on an infield fielder's choice off the bat of Connor Walsh for a 5-1 lead.
 
In the third inning, Shannon led off with an infield single before he moved to second on a single and then stole third base. Following the second out of the inning, Shannon scored on an infield error by TCNJ. In the fourth inning, Walsh singled up the middle and later scored a TCNJ throwing error for a 7-1 lead.
 
TCNJ added two runs in the seventh inning. Jacob Simon led off with a double before moving to third on a wild pitch. Danny Borup then poked a single to left field allowing Simon to score. Tom Persichett then doubled to left field as Borup came around to score for the team's third run of the game 7-3.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Jon Brignoni (5-1) earned the win on the mound. He struck out two, walked two and scattered nine hits in seven innings of action. Greg Westhelle worked the eighth inning and did not give up a hit while Kevin Foulds worked the ninth inning, striking out one while he did not surrender a hit. The Roadrunners collected seven hits in the game while Shannon led the way finishing 2-4 with one run scored.
