ROADRUNNERS WRAP UP 2018 SEASON AT NCAA TOURNAMENT

Brignoni, Kuzmenko, Heitler Named New England Regional All-Tournament Team

Harwich, MA: The Ramapo College baseball team wrapped up the season at the 2018 NCAA Harwich, MA Regional falling to #1 UMass Boston, 7-5 in the Regional Semifinal round. The Roadrunners finish 35-15 overall and ties the single season record for wins in a season. The Beacons now stand at 37-9 and advance to the Regional Championship game.
 
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs. Austin Ungluab led off the game with a single to left field before moving to second on a sac bunt from Anthony Kuzmenko before Joe Maugeri knocked him in with a single for a 1-0 lead. Maugeri later scored when Ryan MacNaughton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded extending the lead 2-0.
 
The Beacons tied the game in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs on back-to-back bases loaded walks from Ryan McCormick and Nick Herzog. Ramapo starting pitcher Nick Recarte worked out of the jam with two straight strikeouts to end the inning.
 
In the bottom of the second inning Chris Fowler plated the go ahead run with an infield ground out with the bases loaded as Charlie Huegi scored for a 3-2 lead.
 
The Beacons extended their lead 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Dan Murphy knocked home Kyle Boudrias and Riley with a hard hit single up the middle.
 
Ramapo made it a one run ball game in the top of the sixth inning when they tacked on two runs. Matt Chemis singled and Unglaub walked before they both moved up on a wild pitch. Anthony Kuzmenko then laced a single into right field plating one run before an infield ground out plated the second as the Beacon still held a 5-4 lead.
 
UMass Boston added a key run in the bottom half of the inning on a Ramapo error as McCormick was able to score for a 6-4 lead. In the top of the seventh inning Vincezo Sita belted his team leading fifth home run of the season over the left field fence, a solo shot, to come within one 6-5. Fowler lined a double into center field in the bottom of the eighth inning to plate pinch runner Wanderson Pinales before Kuzmenko doubled Fowler off at second base for the final out of the inning. Kuzmenko caught a line drive in the left-center field gap and fired to Bobby Shannon at second base to get the third out as the Beacons held a 7-5 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
 
Bryan Kaufman earned the save for the Beacons sending the Roadrunners down in order in the 8th and 9th innings. Tylor Arruda earned the win, he struck out two, walked three and scattered seven hits while he surrendered four runs, three earned.
 
Each team collected nine hits in the game while the Roadrunners were led by Kuzmenko with a 3-4 day and one RBI. Ryan MacNaughton finished 2-3 with one RBI while Unglaub finished 1-4 with two runs scored. Kuzmenko, Cory Heitler and Jon Brignoni were all named to the New England Regional All-Tournament Team.
