Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team shutout Stockton University today 1-0 & 5-0 in NJAC action. The Roadrunners improve to 15-9 overall and 4-4 in the NJAC while the Ospreys now stand at 20-15 overall and 7-7 in the NJAC.
Game One
Senior starting pitcher
Katrina Buczkowski fired a two-hit shutout and Ramapo got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning as the Roadrunners took game one 1-0. Sophomore
Jackie Howarth smacked a triple to lead off the inning before senior
Ally Spellman poked a single to left field for the quick 1-0 lead.
Buczkowski, struck out four, walked one and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before surrendering a one out double. She earned the complete game win on the mound moving to 7-1 on the season.
Howarth led the team finishing 2-3 at the plate as the Roadrunners collected just four hits in game one.
Game Two
The Roadrunners completed the NJAC conference sweep with a 5-0 shutout in game two. Rampao starting pitcher
Christina Brizek worked out of a jam in the top of the first inning when Stockton put their first two batters on base with a hit by pitch and single to start the inning. Spellman then started a 4-3 double play before Brizek got a ground out to end the threat.
Ramapo worked out of another bases loaded jam in the second inning. With one out the Opsreys loaded the bases before an interference call was made when a base runner obstructed Spellman from fielding a ground ball and Brizek induced a fly out to end the inning with the score still knotted 0-0. Ramapo scored three runs in the bottom half of the second inning. With one out junior
Harper Patsko and senior
Sisi Machinski walked before they both moved up one base on a pass ball. Rookie
Carli Egan came up big with a single through the left side of the infield allowing Patsko to score and Machinski to moved to third. Howarth was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Spellman reached on an error allowing Machinski to score with the 2-0 lead. Following a pitching change for Stockton, senior
Shannon Cox laced a single into left field allowing Egan to score for the 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Cox drove home Howarth with a RBI single before pinch hitter sophomore
Sarah Browning ripped a single into left-center field allowing Spellman to cross home plate extending the Roadrunner lead 5-0.
Brizek and the Roadrunner defense held the Ospreys the rest of the game earning a key NJAC win. Brizek (6-2) struck out one, walked one and scattered five hits in the complete game victory. Ramapo collected six hits in the game as Cox led the way finishing 2-4 with two RBI.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on #25 William Paterson University (19-11, 6-6 NJAC) in NJAC conference action at 1pm at the Athletic Center.
