Newark, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University men's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College tonight 3-1 (27-25, 19-25, 25-18, 26-24) in a thrilling four-set match in the opening round of the 2018 CVC Men's Volleyball Tournament. The Roadrunners wrap up the season at 8-21 overall while the Scarlet Raiders moved to 19-8 overall.

The Scarlet Raiders, who are tabbed the #2 seed in the East Division, move on to play the #1 seed from the West Division in Marymount University. The two semifinal matches and championship match will be hosted by #1 overall seed Kean University on April 13th and 14th.

Ramapo, who came into the tournament as the #3 seed in the East Division, saw three Roadrunners collect more than ten kills in the match. The Roadrunners tallied 55 kills on 119 attempts with 21 errors as they hit .286 as a team.
Garrett Fitzsimmons led the way with 15 kills and 12 digs.
Paul Close collected 14 kills on 22 attempts and just one error as he hit .591 in the match while he added six digs.
Eric Van Thuyne collected 12 kills, one ace and four digs while Connor Charlow and Stephen Cosdispodo put down seven and six kills respectively.
Lucas Inglis dished out a team high 48 assists while he added one ace and four digs. On defense Terrance Cando recorded eight digs.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Ricky Crumlish and Corey Pieper each tallied 14 kills while Justin Sandy added 13 kills on 23 attempts and just four errors to hit .391. Travis Emenaker and Tuan Nguyen split the setting duties with 26 and 20 respectively. On defense Jake Connors collected a team high 11 digs while Dom Gutowski led the way with seven assisted blocks and two solo blocks in the match. The team hit .307 overall with 54 kills on 114 attempts and 19 errors.
