Farmingdale, NY: The Ramapo College baseball team pounded out at season high 24 hits as they defeated Farmingdale State College on the road 18-5. With the win the Roadrunners improve to 13-6 overall while the Rams drop to 10-5 on the year.
Ramapo scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 3-0 lead. The Roadrunners scored all three runs with two outs when
Connor Walsh walked and
Bobby Shannon was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base;
Joe Maugeri then laced a triple to the right-center field gap plating both runners for a 2-0 lead. Vincenzo Site then drove home Maugeri with an RBI single for a 3-0 score. In the third inning the Roadrunners added one run when Walsh led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field fence, his first of the season, extended the lead 4-0.
In the sixth inning, Walsh drew a bases loaded walk to push home
Anthony Kuzmenko who led off the inning with a single 5-0 before Chemis came across to touch home plate when the Rams turned a double play in the infield 6-0. Ramapo tacked on one more run in the seventh when Kuzmenko put down a squeeze bunt that scored
Nick Camilleri from third base for a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the seventh, the Rams had the bases loaded with no outs when Domenic Palumbo hit a sac fly to plate the first run for Farmingdale in Tom DeSena before a walk reloaded the bases with no outs. An infield ground out brought home the second run before a wild pitch brought home the third run of the inning. Joe Roche then singled home Tommy Insernia for the fourth run of the inning before Roche was caught stealing by the Ramapo defense as the Roadrunners still led 7-4.
In the top half of the eighth Ramapo added ten runs on ten hits including RBIs from Maugeri, and Sita before Camilleri smacked a double down the left field line plating two runs. Kuzmekno poked a single into left field plating the fifth run of the inning before Walsh drew another bases loaded walk to push home Kuzmenko.
Bobby Shannon then ripped a double into left field allowing two runners to cross home plate in
Matt Chemis and
Austin Unglaub before another single from Maugeri plated two more runs for the 17-4 lead.
Farmingdale plated one more run in the bottom of the inning before Ramapo added their final run in the top half of the ninth. Pinch hitter
Evan Ochlan hit a triple to before
Kyle Buser recorded the RBI with a sac fly to left field for the 18-5 lead. The Roadrunners held the Rams in the bottom half of the inning for the non-conference road win.
Nick Recarte (1-1 overall) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out four, walked three and scattered seven hits over 6.1 innings of work.
Riley Weis worked 1.2 innings in relief while he surrendered three hits and one run.
Jeff Millet worked the ninth inning and struck out one, let up one hit and did not surrender a run.
Maugeri led the team at the plate in the game finishing 4-5 with five RBI and one run scored while Sita finished 4-6 with two RBI and one run scored. Chemis and Camilleri each finished 3-6 in the game with two runs scored while Camilleri posted two RBI. Shannon finished 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while Unglaub, Walsh and Kuzmenko each collected two hits in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action Saturday afternoon at Jeff Maund Field when they open NJAC conference play against rival #1/3 Rowan University (14-1) beginning at 11:30am.
