Mahwah, NJ: The #8 ranked Kean University men's volleyball team slipped past Ramapo College tonight at the Bradley Center 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23). The Cougars, who are ranked #8 in the AVCA Top 15 Poll, improve to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the CVC while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Ramapo was slated to finish third in the CVC East Division behind #2 Rutgers-Newark University and the #1 Cougars. The top four teams in each division earn a spot in the CVC Conference Tournament, with the #1 seed of each division earning a first-round bye. The Cougars had to come from behind in games one and four while they were able to hold off Ramapo in game three down the stretch. The Roadrunners'
Conor Charlow recorded a kill in game two to put the team up 19-18 that led to three straight kills for Ramapo and a 21-18 lead before they took game two 25-21.
Kean was led by Jacob Milnazik who tallied 14 kills on 30 attempts and five errors as he hit .300 in the match. He also collected four digs, two assists and one block. Ian Capp posted a team high four aces while he added seven kills hitting .308 overall. Zach Gerken and Capp split the setting duties as Capp dished out 16 assists and Gerken recorded ten. Steven Zarzycki added three aces, one block and two kills while Nick Breslin and Jared Warner each led the way on defense with eight digs. Warner and Nicholas Buseski posted a team high four blocks each. The team hit .260 overall with 44 kills on 104 attempts and 17 errors.
Garrett Fitzsimmons posted a team high 11 kills on 25 attempts and only three errors as he hit .320 in the match. Fitzsimmons also recorded five digs and two blocks, including one solo block.
Eric Van Thuyne added nine kills and eight digs while Charlow hit .471 in the match with nine kills on 17 attempts with only one error.
Jason Van Der Wilt collected eight kills while
Lucas Inglis dished out a match high 35 assists.
Nicholas Esposito led the way on defense with 11 digs while he added three assists and one kill. The team hit .222 in the match with 42 kills on 108 attempts and 18 errors.
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, February 16th when they host Neumann College in a non-conference game at the Bradley Center at 7pm.
