Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College 54-24 tonight at the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament. In the first game of the night, St. Joseph's College Brooklyn defeated Southern Vermont College 85-63. The Roadrunners, who moved to 3-0 overall, will now take on St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-1 overall) in the Championship game at 2pm. SVC (1-2 overall) will play Medgar Evers (0-2 overall) in the Consolation game at Noon.
Ramapo held their opponent under 30 points for the third straight game.
Amber Sagan led the Roadrunners with 13 points while she added four rebounds and three steals.
Samantha Rinaldi posted ten points while she added three rebounds, four steals and one assist.
Jenna Harsh grabbed a team high seven rebounds while she contributed with five points.
Jessica Repasy added six points and six rebounds.
The Roadrunners held the Cougars to just three points in the first quarter and just 11 points at the half as Ramapo led 28-11. The Ramapo defense forced 26 Cougar turnovers that led to 28 points on the board for the Roadrunners. The Roadrunners took a 17-3 lead in the second quarter when they went on an 11-0 run that was capped off with a three-pointer from Sagan. Ramapo's biggest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter when they led 52-20, a 32-point gap before
Nicole Rigoli scored the final points for Ramapo, a layup with 18 seconds remaining. Cyndi Whyte scored the final basket for Medgar as the Roadrunners posted a 54-24 win. Ramapo shot 37% (22-59) from the field, 18% (3-16) from the three-point line and 43% (7-16) from the free throw line.
The Cougars were led by Whyte and Janaisha Carrington who each collected seven points. Jessycca Myers led the team with seven rebounds while she added four points. The team shot 14% (7-48) from the field, 12% (1-8) from the three-point line and 47% (9-19) from the free throw line.
In the first game of the night, St. Joseph's College Brooklyn pulled away in the first quarter and held on for an 85-63 win over Southern Vermont. The Bears led 30-18 heading into the second quarter before they added 20 points to their tally to lead 50-29 at the half. Southern Vermont outscored the Bears in the third quarter while St. Joe's tallied 21 points to SVC's 19 in the fourth.
Four players scored in double figures for St. Joe's as Kelly O'Donnell led the team with 31 points. O'Donnell finished 10-19 from the floor while she sank six three-pointers. Victoria Porcasi tallied 21 points and four assists while Lauren Quesada and Caitlyn Staab each posted double-doubles in the game. Quesada collected 14 points and a team high 15 rebounds while Staab added 15 points and 12 rebounds. The team shot 46% (31-67) from the field, 40% (11-27) from the three-point line and 75% (12-16) from the free throw line.
Southern Vermont was led by Kyra Bruesewitz and Maddy Main who collected 13 points each while Main posted a double-double adding 13 rebounds. Liv Pressley posted nine points and three steals while Julia Ryan added seven points and six rebounds. The team shot 33% (22-66) from the field, 29% (7-24) from the three-point line and 63% (12-19) from the free throw line.
