Mahwah, NJ: The William Paterson University women's soccer team posted a 3-1 NJAC conference win over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Pioneers improve to 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners wrap up the 2018 season 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
WPU took a 1-0 lead 27 minutes into the game when Corrine Bowe scored unassisted on a breakaway, her fifth goal of the year. The Roadrunners looked to even the score in the 36th minute when
Gabrielle Gentilucci ripped a shot off the crossbar. Marisa Adelman notched her team leading 16th goal of the season in the final seconds of the first half off a pass from Michaela Stanton for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. WPU edged Ramapo in shots 13-12 in the first half while the Roadrunners collected two corners to the Pioneer's one. Each goalie made seven saves in the first half.
In the second half, the Roadrunners controlled the first twenty minutes of action as they got off five shots, all on goal. Maisie Jelly hit the crossbar for Ramapo before the Roadrunners were awarded a corner kick in the 68th minute of action.
Liliann Vizcaino sent a ball into the box and
Skyler Rybacki got a head onto the ball pushing it past the WPU keeper to put Ramapo on the board (67:30). The Pioneers would add an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Adelman added her second goal of the day off a pass from Morgan Bringoli for a 3-1 lead, her 17th goal of the season.
Rampao could not find the back of the net in the final minutes of the game as WPU came away with the 3-1 NJAC road victory. Ramapo outshot WPU 21-18 overall and 13-11 on goal while the Roadrunners earned five corner kicks to WPU's three.
Elizabeth Harvell tallied eight saves in the game for Ramapo while Erica Hickey collected 12 for the Pioneers.
