HEARTBREAKING LOSS FOR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL IN MATCH-UP WITH KEAN

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Kean University, 58-56, on a buzzer beater at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners move to 5-15 overall (2-11 NJAC) while the Cougars improve to 8-11 overall (5-8 NJAC).

It was a slow start for both teams, but Kean netted the first basket after a two-and-a-half-minute lull. Cindy Foresta led the Cougars with ten points in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting as well as notching three rebounds. Danielle Oakley added seven while Latice Cunningham tallied five points.

Alie Wickersheim led the Roadrunners with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds as well in the first half. Jessica Repasy also notched two jumpers for four points while Tia Solomon had four points.

The Cougars took a 28-22 lead into the locker room after the first half.

Entering the second half, Kean continued to build their lead that reached double-digits. But the Roadrunners had a lot of fight in them, especially from captain Bridgette Buckalew. She totaled nine points in the half on 4-of-5 shooting, which included a big three-pointer to bring the Roadrunners within one point (52-53) with a minute left to play.

On the ensuing possession, Kean would add insurance on a Cunningham jumper to make it a three-point lead. However, Solomon would bring it back to one with a layup under the basket, 54-55.

With ten seconds left, Oakley would knock down one of her two free throws to make it a two-point game, 56-54. Repasy would then bank a free-throw jumper off the glass to tie it at 56 with five seconds to play.

But Kean didn't let the game go as Cunningham hit a running jumper with 0.9 seconds left to end the game. She would finish with a game-high 16 points, while Payce Lange had 13 points.

Wickersheim finished with a game-high 12 points with Buckalew and Stacey Porzl notching nine.

The next time the Roadrunners are in action will be on Jan. 31 as they take on Rutgers-Newark on the road at 6pm.
