Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team earned the #2 seed in the upcoming
NJAC Tournament. The Roadrunners (22-14) will host #5 Kean University (22-17) tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm. This is the Roadrunners ninth trip to the conference tournament under head coach
Rich Martin. Ramapo won the 2016 NJAC tournament title as the #3 seed and defeated #5 Montclair State in the championship game 8-3.
Ramapo and Kean split the home-and-home series earlier this season. The Roadrunners won on the road 8-2 on April 7th before Kean won 4-1 on April 9th in Mahwah. The opening round of the tournament will be played at the higher seed while the remaining games move to Kean University's Jim Hynes '62 Stadium on Friday May 5th through Sunday May 7th. Tickets for tomorrow's game are $5 for Adults and $2 for students, NJAC passes and season passes will not be accepted.
Six players in the starting lineup are hitting over .300 for the Roadrunners. Senior
Rob DeAngelis leads the team with a .404 batting average. He boasts a team best 59 hits and 37 runs scored while he is second on the team with ten doubles and four triples. Senior
Brandon Martinez is hitting .363 with 49 hits including a team best 41 RBI and five home runs. Junior
Joe Maugeri is second on the team with a .365 batting average, 31 runs scored and 54 hits. Junior
Bobby Shannon has recorded a second best 26 RBI this season with a .349 batting average including 45 hits and a team best 11 doubles. Junior
Austin Unglaub is the only player to start all 36 games this season and has recorded a .341 batting average with 45 hits, 25 runs scored and 18 RBI. Junior
Connor Walsh has collected 37 hits and a .322 batting average and leads the team on defense with 252 putouts.
On the mound, senior
John Doherty (2-0) leads the team with 43 strikeouts over 41 innings pitched while opponents are batting .214 against him. Junior
Jerry D'Andrea (4-3) has struck out 40 over 44.2 innings pitched while he's recorded a 2.22 ERA. Sophomore
Kevin Foulds (2-0) leads the team with a 1.05 ERA while he's tallied 27 strikeouts over 25.2 innings pitched.
CJ Growney (5-3) leads the team in wins while he's posted 30 strikeouts over 47 innings pitched and has recorded a 3.45 ERA.
