Mahwah, NJ: The #2 seeded Ramapo College Roadrunners played host to the #3 seeded Dolphins of Mt. St. Vincent College tonight in a semi-final match-up of the 2017 Skyline Championship Tournament where the Dolphins would prove to be too much for Ramapo taking the match, 3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-16). MSV advances to the finals on Saturday against Kean. Ramapo falls to 18-12 with the loss while Mt. St. Vincent improves to 18-11.
Tyler Cucullu led the Dolphins with 22 kills and Scott Sawyer added 14 as the team combined for 55-125 with 22 errors hitting .264. Logan Dickover dished out 49 assists, Cucullu led the defense with 13 digs and Neven Skoblar put away five blocks.
Game one went to the Dolphins (25-23) as Cucullu and Sawyer each collected six kills. The team hit a combined 16-33 with two errors hitting .424. Cucullu picked up seven digs and Dickover dished out 13 assists. For Ramapo,
Paul Close led with five kills and
Connor Brandow picked up five digs as the team hit .267 with 18 kills on 45 attempts with six errors.
The Dolphins took a two set advantage (26-24) as the team hit .125 with Cucullu leading the way again with five kills. Dickover dished out 14 assists and Augustine Ameruso picked up a team leading five digs.
Justin Feigeles and Close led Ramapo with three kills and Feigeles and Brandow picked up four digs each as the team hit a combined 11-38 with six errors (.132).
Ramapo would fight back in the third set (25-23) to close the gap, 2-1 as Close put away a team leading five kills. The team went 12-29 with seven errors in the set hitting .172. Feigeles and Terrance Cando each picked up three digs. The Dolphins hit a combined .148 with ten kills on 27 attempts and six errors. Cucullu led with five kills and Jordan Steiger picked up four digs.
MSV took the fourth set which earned them the match win (25-16) as Cucullu led again, this time with six kills. The team hit 14-25 with four errors hitting .400. Dickover dished out 12 assists and Ameruso picked up three digs. Brandow led in the set with four kills and Cando picked up three digs.
The Roadrunners combined for 50 kills in the match as they hit .144 with 29 errors on 14 attempts. Close led with 15 kills, Brandow added ten and Feigeles finished with eight.
Lucas Inglis dished out 21 assists and Feigeles added 19 as Feigeles led the defense with 12 digs.
Ramapo awaits news on an ECAC bid which is announced on Monday afternoon.
