BRANAGAN SPARKS OSPREYS IN WIN OVER RAMAPO

Pomona, NJ: The Stockton University women's basketball team cruised past Ramapo College this afternoon with a 77-47 NJAC win. The Ospreys improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
 
The Ospreys used six three-pointers in the first quarter, including back-to-back shots from Colleen Branagan to take a 13-11 lead that they would not give up through the remainder of the game. Jina Crawford got the Roadrunners on the board in the first quarter with a jumper while she scored Ramapo's first six points. Ramapo took their biggest lead of the game 11-7 when Bridgette Buckalew converted on an and-one play scoring a jumper and a free throw. Stockton then went on a 19-4 run to close out the first quarter including hitting five three-pointers taking a 24-15 lead into the second.
 
The two teams traded three-pointers in the second quarter with Lea Mendolla scoring for the Ospreys and Samantha Rinaldi putting one in for the Roadrunners cutting the Stockton lead to eight. The Ospreys began to pull away with about four minutes of action left in the quarter. They took their biggest lead 45-26 on a jumper from Sasha Williams to close out the first half up 19. Stockton held a 20-point lead or more for most of the third quarter. They took their biggest lead 62-34 on a made basket from Najha Treadwell with 2:40 left on the clock. Ramapo closed out the quarter making two pairs of free throws from Rinaldi and Alie Wickersheim. Stockton held Ramapo to just nine points in the fourth quarter while they started the final quarter of action on an 8-0 run before Amber Sagan made one free throw for Ramapo. Stockton took their biggest lead of the game 72-39 on a jumper from Mendolla with under five minutes to play. Ramapo scored back-to-back shots from Sagan and Jenna Harsh before Natalie Miller made Stockton's tenth three-pointer to extend their lead 75-32 with under 2:40 to play. Rinaldi scored the final four points for the Roadrunners while Marisa Daniels put in the final basket for Stockton 77-47.
 
Crawford and Rinaldi each scored ten points for the Roadrunners while Wiskersheim grabbed a team high nine rebounds. The team shot 23% (15-63) from the field and 69% (16-23) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 13 Osprey turnovers that turned into eight points for Ramapo.
 
The Ospreys were led by Williams who posted a double-double, 12 points and 14 rebounds and four blocked shots while Mendolla, Treadwell and Branagan each posted 16 points in the game. Branagan finished 5-8 from beyond the three-point line while Treadwell posted eight rebounds. Stockton shot 42% (26-69) from the field, 41% (10-24) from the three-point line and 69% (9-13) from the free throw line. The Ospreys out rebounded Ramapo 53-42 in the game.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, December 6th when they host Rutgers Newark University at 5:30pm at the Bradley Center.
