LADY ROADRUNNERS FALL TO MANHATTANVILLE

Purchase, NY:  The Manhattanville College women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 60-45 today in non-conference action. The Valiants improve to 3-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-3 overall.
 
The Valiants had three players score in doubles figures as Kayleah McGuire led both teams with 21 points. She finished 11-15 from the free throw line and 5-10 from the field. Joiada Darnell and Sarah Coutu each added 11 points each while Darnell added 12 rebounds for a double-double.  Jykayla Eltling nearly completed a double-double of her own with nine points and nine rebounds. Manhattanville shot 32% (17-52) from the field, 23% (3-13) from the three-point line and 62% (23-37) from the free throw line in the game.
 
The Valiants opened the game on a 16-2 run and never gave up the lead. Ramapo finished the first quarter on an 8-2 run of their own closing the gap to 18-10 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter neither team scored a basket until 7:11 remaining when Ramapo's Bridgette Buckalew scored a layup off a dish from Stacey Porzl to come cut the lead to 18-12. The Valiants began to pull away in the second quarter when they stretched their lead to 28-14 with a 10-2 run capped of by a three-pointer from Sarah Coutu with 4:53 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch while Manhattanville maintained a 15-point lead heading into the locker room as Darnell hit a basket with eight seconds on the clock 35-20.
 
Tia Solomon opened the scoring for the Roadrunners in the third quarter when she made a layup and was fouled on the play. She stepped to the free throw line and sunk a free throw, cutting the lead to twelve, 35-23. That is as close as the Roadrunners would get the remainder of the game. The Valiants stretched their lead to 19 points in the fourth quarter when McGuire made a jumper with 8:18 remaining. Jenna Harsh nailed a three-pointer of her own for the Roadrunner while Jina Crawford and Solomon sank free throws, cutting the lead to 13, 51-38 with about six minutes to play. Over the next four minutes the Valiants would once again take a 17-point lead, 60-43, while Ramapo scored the final basket of the game on a layup from Crawford 60-45.
 
Crawford led the Roadrunners in the game with nine points while Solomon, Alie Wickersheim and Buckalew each added seven points apiece. Solomon led the Roadrunners with seven rebounds while Jenna Harsh posted six points and three rebounds in the game. Ramapo shot 29% (14-47) from the floor, 22% (2-9) from the three-point line and 68% (15-22) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 22 Valiant turnovers in the game resulting in 13 points for Ramapo.
