#24 NJCU SNAPS #13 RAMAPO WIN STREAK IN OVERTIME 76-71

Jersey City, NJ: #24 New Jersey City University men's basketball team outlasted #13 Ramapo College in overtime 76-71. The Gothic Knights snapped the Roadrunners 14-game win streak and improve to 13-3 overall, 7-2 in the NJAC while Ramapo now stands at 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference.

Thomas Bonacum led the Roadrunners with 17 points while Sultan Aminu posted a team high nine rebound and 14 points. Christopher Moseley contributed with 12 points while Cory Soanes added ten points in the game. The team shot 39% (26-66) from the field and 73% (19-26) from the free throw line in the game. Ramapo out rebounded NJCU 45-35 and forced 19 Gothic Knights turnovers.  

Down two with six-seconds remaining in the regulation and possession of the ball, Ramapo's Sultan Aminu grabbed an offensive rebound and put up the game-tying basket 61-61 as the ball went through the hoop with 2.1 seconds left on the clock. NJCU got a shot off in the final seconds but came up short as the game headed into overtime for the first time this season for the Roadrunners.

Ramapo scored the first two baskets of the overtime period as Moseley and Bonacum hit back-to-back shots. Jalen Harris posted an 8-2 run of his own scoring all eight points for the Gothic Knights to take a one point lead, 68-67 with 2:01 on the clock. Ata Robinson nailed a three-pointer from NJCU (1:05) before Bonacum put in a basket for Ramapo to come with in three, 69-71 with under a minute to play. The Gothic Knights ended the game on a 5-2 spurt coming away with the five-point NJAC victory.

The Gothic Knight started the game on a 5-0 run before Ramapo went on a 10-0 run of their own started by Bonacum with a basket at 18:33. The run was capped off by Bonacum who hit a basket off a dish from Josh Ford to take a 10-5 lead with 16:05 on the clock. NJCU scored the next ten points of their own to take a 15-10 lead with 14:14 left in the half. The Roadrunners were down 18-13 before Bonacum started an 10-2 run with a pair of made free throws (10:35) and capped off with a made basket by Laverne Green to take a 23-20 lead with 7:25 left in the first half. Chinwe Wosu put NJCU back on top by one with mini 4-0 run of his own (4:32) before Sam Toney sank a three-pointer for the Gothic Knights 27-23 (4:20). Cory Soanes sunk a pair of free throws (2:46) as Ramapo ended the first half on a 8-2 run to head into the halftime knotted at 31 all. Ramapo shot 36% (11-30) from the floor in the first half and 81% (9-11) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners out rebounded NJCU 21-19.

In the second half, NJCU jumped out to an eight point lead 45-37 when Jalen Harris and James Julius hit back-to-back three-pointers with 16:18 to play. The Gothic Knights stretched their lead to nine with 10:40 on the clock with a layup from Ruben Acosta before Ramapo shrunk the lead to five with a mini 4-0 run of their own. NJCU went back up seven 56-49 before Zahir Newell started a 5-0 run with a made free throw with 8:28 on the clock. Soanes hit a layup before Nick Stanek sank two free throws to come within two 56-54 (7:36). NJCU stretched their lead back to six before Ramapo finished the half on a 6-0 run to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 18th when they host NJAC rival William Paterson University at the Bradley Center at 7:30pm.
