Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

IWASKIW LEADS RAMAPO OVER BARUCH 3-1

Mahwah, NJ:  Junior Larysa Iwaskiw led the Ramapo College women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-18, 25-9, 21-25, 25-13) non-conference victory over Baruch College tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 6-3 overall while the Bearcats even their record to 4-4 overall.

Iwaskiw tallied 20+ kills for the seventh time this season as she led the team with 21 tonight. She also led the team with five aces and 20 digs. Iwaskiw hit .367 in the match while she contributed with two blocks. Senior Emily Guzman posted ten kills, four digs, three blocks and two aces while rookie Karina Almeda added six kills on 11 attempts to hit .455 in the match with eight digs and two aces. Rookie Kate Shirkey dished out a team high 22 assists while senior Rachel Selmore recorded 20 assists of her own. Kristen Behrens tallied three assists and 15 digs on defense for the Roadrunners while Sarah Mulligan posted 11 of her own. Ramapo hit .231 in the match as a team with 51 kills on 147 attempts with 17 errors. The Roadrunners won games one and two and seemed to have the match wrapped up in game three as they were up ten points 15-5 before Baruch called a timeout. Ramapo held an eight point lead 17-9 before the Bearcats came back to take an 18-17 lead. Ramapo would tie the game with a kill from Guzman before Baruch went on a five point run to take a 23-18 lead. On the game's first match point with Baruch up 24-19, the Roadrunners came back with a huge assisted block from Iwaskiw and Guzman before Iwaskiw put down a kill to come within three, 21-24. Baruch got lucky with a Ramapo service error as they were able to take game three. The Roadrunners were able to take control of game four to win the match 3-1.

Baruch was led by Akilah Meulens with ten kills while she added two blocks. Alessandra Chavez  posted seven kills and 13 digs while Stephanie Cornwell dished out a team high 23 assists. Marisa Bou posted a team high 20 digs on defense while Sophia Shahipour added 13 digs of her own. The Bearcats hit .015 in the match with 25 kills on 130 attempts and 23 errors.

"It was a good win to be able to have (for) the first game at home (this season). We were able to work on different things we have been working on in practice heading into this weekend's matches", head coach Rob Pichardo on tonight's win.

Ramapo returns to action this Friday and Saturday when they host the Roadrunner Invitational at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners will take on Hunter College on Friday on court one at 4pm while Mt. St. Mary College goes up against New Paltz on court two also at 4pm. At 6pm on court one Mt. St. Mary will take on Hunter while FDU-Florham and New Paltz will match-up on court two. The Roadrunners will return to action at 8pm Friday night as they take on FDU-Florham at 8pm for the night's final match.
