Middlebury, VT: The College of New Jersey advanced in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Ramapo College in a match played indoors at the Nelson Recreational Center hosted by Middlebury College. The Lions (11-6) will play Skidmore on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., while the Roadrunners finish their season at 14-4.
TCNJ jumped out to a 3-0 advantage at the conclusion of doubles. The Lions' Tim Gavornik posted an 8-0 victory at #3 over
Christopher Wong and
Matt Talmage. A few minutes later, TCNJ doubled its lead when Pierce Cooper and Mitchel Sanders tallied an 8-1 win over Adam Petrovics and
Philip Fuster in the second flight. The #1 duo of Mike Stanley and Jack August completed the sweep with an 8-3 triumph over Ramapo's
Willen Feygin and
Matt Goldstein.
In singles matches, the Lions were victorious at #2 and #3. In the third spot, Sanders earned the fourth point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Petrovics. At #2, August clinched the match via a 6-1, 6-0 score over Goldstein.
A pair of matches on the courts went unfinished. Ramapo's Feygin was up by a set (6-2), but trailed in the second set 3-0 to Cooper at the top spot, while TCNJ's Chris D'Agostino grabbed the opening set by a 6-0 score and was up 3-0 score over Talmage at #4. The fifth and sixth singles matches didn't take to the court.
