WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BOWS OUT OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

Hoboken, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's volleyball team historic season came to an end today in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology. Eastern University defeated Ramapo 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 22-25) and advanced to Sunday afternoon's regional final.
 
The Roadrunners wrapped up the season with a 25-6 overall record. This is the fifth time under the direction of head coach Robert Pichardo that the Roadrunners have recorded 25 or more wins in a season. Ramapo swept conference play to win their first NJAC regular season crown before they fell in the NJAC Tournament Championship match. The program was awarded with their first ever NCAA at-large bid in program history.
 
Ramapo battled in all three sets today but were overcome by Eastern as they took the match in straight sets. Larysa Iwaskiw led the Roadrunners with 23 kills as she wrapped the season setting the single season kills record with 663 kills, breaking her own record she set in 2015. Senior Emily Guzman recorded four kills and a team high five blocks in the match. Senior Rachel Selmore posted a team high 20 assists while rookie Kate Shirkey recorded ten of her own. Sophomore Kristen Behrens posted nine digs to lead the team on defense while rookie Karina Almeda and senior Natalia Saavedra collected eight and seven digs respectively. Rookie Samantha Main tallied three blocks and two kills. The team hit .145 in the match with 36 kills on 117 attempts and 19 errors.
 
For Eastern, Stephanie Elechko and Alicia Weigel each collected 12 kills to lead the team on offense while Morgan Kline posted a team high 36 assists. Rylie Haas collected a match-high 17 digs while Kline and Weigel each posted 12 of their own. Michelle Paulsen and Morgan Shemonski each tallied five blocks in the match while Miranda Kauffman collected a team high three aces. The team hit .241 in the match with 41 kills on 108 attempts and 15 errors.
