Frank Nock scored a game-high 20 points as the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Rutgers Camden, 72-61, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on the road Saturday afternoon. Ramapo improves to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the NJAC while Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference with its sixth straight loss.
The score was tied seven times and the lead changed hands three times, with Ramapo taking the lead for good at 28-26 on a jumper by Nock late in the first half. Heading into the intermission, Ramapo held a 36-34 lead, before taking the game, 72-61, as the team shot a combined 26-63 (41%) from the field in the win. Nock went 5-9 including a perfect 4-4 from three-point range and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe, while
Christopher Moseley chipped in 18 points hitting 8-11 from the field.
James Long led in assists dishing out five and Moseley pulled down seven boards.
Nick Stanek collected nine points and four rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden received 16 points and six rebounds from Isaac Destin, while Abby Bah added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. John Tatem added nine points, Julian Diaz-Smitherman collected eight points and Shaun Thomas added seven points for the Scarlet Raptors. The team shot 21-54 (39%) in the loss. The Raptors also made four more turnovers than the Roadrunners, 18-14.
The two teams traded baskets and the lead for the majority of the first half until the 4:44 minute mark, when a two point goal from Nock would give the Roadrunners a 28-26 advantage. Ramapo would work to a seven point lead just over two minutes later with a layup from
Cory Soanes, 34-27. In the final minutes of the half, Rutgers Camden out scored Ramapo, 7-2 to come within just two points, 34-36 with a good three-pointer from Charlie Riccardi, the last basket of the half. Nock led Ramapo with nine first half points as the team shot 12-33 (36%) and it was Destin who collected a team high ten points in the half for Rutgers Camden. The team combined for a 13-25 (52%) shooting performance in the first 20 minutes of play.
Ramapo spent the first ten minutes of the second half climbing to a double-digit advantage where at 10:00 flat, Stanek hit a jump shot to go ahead, 53-43. The Roadrunners would work to their biggest lead of 15 points on two occasions, the first coming at 4:49 with free throws from Nock, and the second coming at 2:36 with with a long shot from
Thomas Bonacum, before closing out the game on top, 72-61. Nock collected 11 second half points and Mosely added ten as Ramapo went 14-30 (47%) in the final half. Bah led the Scarlet Raptors with seven points as he team hit a combined 8-29 (27%).
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 20
th when they host William Paterson at 7:30pm at the Bradley Center.
