Box Score Old Westbury, NY: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Old Westbury 11-0 today to earn their 28th win of the season. The Roadrunners improve to 28-14 overall while the Panthers now stand at 25-11 overall.
Old Westbury won the Skyline Conference Tournament on May 3rd and earned an automatic bid to the upcoming 2015 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. The Roadrunners hope to earn an at-large bid to the tournament when the selections are made Sunday night.
The Roadrunners scored four runs in the top of the third and the top of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead before they added there runs in the seventh; extending their lead 11-0.
For the second time this week the Roadrunners recorded 15 hits in a game. In the first inning
Brandon Berger walked and
Rob DeAngelis singled through the right side before
Scott Shields ripped a single to right field driving home Berger for a 1-0 lead. DeAngelis scored on a wild pitch before
Scott Peschiani drove home Shields and
Joe Venturino with a single for the 4-0 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Ryan Rinsky singled; Berger doubled to left center and with one out DeAngelis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shields then connected on the first pitch he saw and drove a double down the left field line allowing Rinsky and Berger to come around and score. Venturino then plated DeAngelis with a sac fly and Shields came home on a pass ball for an 8-0 lead.
Jared Ensmenger pinch hit in the top of the seventh and drove home
Chris Werr with a single up the middle 9-0 before
Joe Crabbe laced a double to left field, plating
Rich Policastro and Ensmenger 11-0.
The Panthers scored their lone run in the bottom of the eight on a wild pitch 1-11.
Walker Larson earned his ninth victory of the year (9-2) as he fired a two-hitter over six innings of work. He struck out six, three looking and walked one while he did not give up a run.
Tyler Curto struck out three, walked two and surrendered one hit and one run in 1.2 innings of work while
John Doherty pitched the final 1.1 innings. He struck out three and surrendered one hit.
Shields led the team at the plate as he finished 3-4 with two runs score, three RBI and two doubles. DeAngelis was 2-4 with two runs scored while Peschiani was 2-3 with two RBI.
The Roadrunners will now wait to see if they earned an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Baseball Tournament; the 56-team bracket will be announced late this Sunday night.
