Newark, NJ: In their final game of the 2014-2015 season, the Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough, 65-78 decision in overtime tonight to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark University. Ramapo wraps up the season at 4-21 overall and 0-18 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers Newark improves to 13-12 overall and 9-9 in the conference.
Rutgers Newark held a two-point, 35-33 halftime lead and Ramapo pushed to make up the deficit at the end of regulation to force an overtime period in the NJAC conference match-up. In the end, the Scarlet Raiders proved to be too much as they defeated the Roadrunners 78-65 in Newark.
Jina Crawford led all Roadrunners collecting 16 points hitting 6-17 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from behind the charity stripe, while
Grace Elliott sank 13 points and
Dejha Flood added 12.
Kerrie Kosakowski collected 11 points of her own in the loss as the team combined hitting 21-54 (39%) on the night. Kosakowski dished out a team high three assists.
Rutgers Newark forced 26 Ramapo turnovers and held a slight 43-39 advantage in rebounds, as Jade Howard shot 9-20 from the field, including 8-11 from the free throw line, to lead the Scarlet Raiders with a team high 26 points. Maria Simmons chipped in 13 points and Arianna Williams added 12, as Jasmine Lombard was the final Raider in double digits sinking ten points in the win. The team hit a combined 27-68 (38%) on the night. Simmons grabbed a team leading eight steals as she also dished out seven assists in the team's ninth win of the season in the conference.
