WOMEN'S SOCCER WRAPS UP 2015 SEASON WITH TOUGH LOSS

Newark, NJ:  After falling behind two goals to none, the Ramapo College women's soccer team fought to take a 3-2 edge over Rutgers Newark, but it wasn't enough as the Scarlet Raiders prevailed, 4-3 over Ramapo in the opening round of the 2015 ECAC DIII Metro Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.  With the loss the Roadrunners wrap up the season at 9-7-1 overall.  Rutgers Newark improves to 14-8-1 and advances to the semi-final round of the tournament.

Sara Corson got the Scarlet Raiders on the scoreboard just over 28 minutes into the game when she capitalized on a penalty kick scoring her 20th goal of the season.  Juliana Ceballos put Rutgers Newark up 2-0 off an assist from Corson and Ramapo's Autumn Herring closed the gap with a free kick goal at 41:11, a score of 2-1 that held until the halftime buzzer.  Rutgers Newark held a slight 6-5 advantage in shots in the first half while Jessica Cusick made four saves in goal for Ramapo. Veronika Tueros grabbed two saves of her own in the first half of play.

Ramapo came out on fire to start the second half as Skyler Rybacki, off an assist from Michaela Knoblock, and Amber Hermanns, off an assist from Kelsey Sutherland, each scored goals to give the Roadrunners a 3-2 lead in the 53rd minute of the game, but with under seven minutes to play, and Ramapo down to ten women, Corson and Ceballos struck again at 83:13 and 86:35 respectively to clinch the game, 4-3.  Rutgers Newark again held an advantage in shots, this time 8-4, while Ramapo collected three saves and Rutgers Newark an additional two in the final period.

For the game, corner kicks were even at one a piece while Rutgers Newark was caught offsides eight times.

This was the first time the Roadrunners qualified for the ECAC Tournament since 2007.  Congratulations on a great season!
