Union, NJ: After just over 98 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Ramapo College men's soccer team wrapped up the 2015 season with a 1-0 overtime victory over #12 ranked Kean University tonight on the road.
It was an evenly played game where the Cougars (14-5, 5-4 NJAC) held just a slight advantage in shots at 23-22, but it was Ramapo (8-9-2, 2-6-1 NJAC) who prevailed in the end as they defeated the Cougars in overtime in the New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
In the 99th minute of the game, after 90 minutes of scoreless soccer to force overtime, rookie
Jorge Castro took a corner for the Roadrunners which connected with the head of
Bayley Young. Young's header landed at the foot of
Trevor Albrecht placed just in front of the keeper, and after collecting the ball, he turned and ripped a shot past the Cougar netminder giving Ramapo the 1-0 golden goal win on the road.
Matthew Hernandez and
Ryan Sprague split time in goal for Ramapo making seven saves while Brad Watkins made five saves for the Cougars. Kean had an edge in corner kicks at 7-5.
Ramapo wraps up the 2015 season with the 1-0 victory while the Cougars advance to the NJAC post-season tournament commencing Saturday.
