Madison, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team opened the 2014 season with a, 2-2, tie in double overtime today against Simmons College at the FDU Classic. The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at 4:30pm when they take on host Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham.
Simmons looked to score in the first half before rookie
Stephanie Bonilla made a great defensive stop to keep the score, 0-0. Simmons got on the board first in the 37th minute of the game with a goal from Erin Montambault, the goal was assisted by Alexis Eusebio. Rookie
Nani Vizcaino hit the back of the net for the Roadrunners in the second half (55th minute) off a cross into the box from rookie
Gabriella DiLiberto to tie the game, 1-1. Junior
Autumn Herring put Ramapo up, 2-1, with a penalty kick in the 83rd minute before Montambault scored her second goal to tie the game at two, 2-2, in the 85th minute.
Neither team could put the ball into the back of the net in the final minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime. With no score in the first overtime period, the two teams would play a second ten minutes. Simmons held a 4-1 advantage in shots in the two overtime periods while Kashka Gammon hit the cross bar in the second overtime period for Simmons, one of few chances for the team.
Simmons (0-0-1) posted a 13-11 advantage in shots in the game while Ramapo (0-0-1) held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Rookies
Hayley Walther and
Taylor Marcialis each took time in the net for Ramapo. Walther posted three saves in the first 64:58 minutes of the game while Marcialis played the final 45:02 of the game, tallying four saves.
