Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated St. Joseph's College - LI, 7-6, this afternoon at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 14-7-1 overall while the Golden Eagles fall to 8-13.
St. Joseph's scored one run in the top of the first on a wild pitch before the Roadrunners came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Scott Shields smacked a triple to center field before
Joe Venturino knocked him in with an RBI single to tie the game, 1-1.
Dan McEldowney then scored on a RBI ground out from
Chris Werr before
Scott Peschiani singled home Venturino, 3-1.
In the second, the Golden Eagles added one run, to come within one, 3-2. Josh Outsen recorded an RBI double to plate Matt Leach. In the bottom half of the inning Ramapo scored two runs on three hits to take a 5-2 lead.
James Hardgrove drove home
Kevin Kelly with a single up the middle before Venturino ripped a double down the left field line, plating Hardgrove. St. Joseph's scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a, 6-5 lead, before the Roadrunners came back in the eighth to retake the lead.
In the eighth inning for the Roadrunners,
Ryan Rinsky walked and Venturino laced a single to left field before they moved up one base on a wild pitch.
Ian Osterman then drove an, 0-2, pitch down the right field line, allowing both runners to cross home plate to take a 7-6 lead.
Relief pitcher
Keith Jennings (1-0) came into the game in the sixth inning and earned the win. He let up only one hit while walking none and striking out six, including the final out of the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Venturino finished the day going 4-5 with two RBI and two runs scored while Peschiani and Hardgrove each collected two hits a piece.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at NJAC rival Montclair State University at 3:30pm.
