RAMAPO, WPU PLAY TO A 6-6 TIE

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team hosted NJAC rival William Paterson University today at Jeff Maund Field. The game was called following the final out in the ninth inning, ending in a 6-6 tie.

The Roadrunners now stand at 12-7-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the NJAC while the Pioneers stand at 7-11-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the conference.

WPU got on the board in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead when KC Abel drove home Rob Pasternak with an RBI groundout. Ramapo came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the first inning, 1-1. Ian Osterman drove home Jose Garcia with a single to right center field. Garcia led off the inning with a single down the left field line.

In the bottom of the third inning, Ramapo's Chris Werr laced a double to right field, allowing Garcia and John Capuano to come around to score, 3-1. WPU came right back in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on one hit, tying the game at three.

Joe Venturino ripped a double to center field to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning before he moved to third on an infield ground out. Werr then drove him home with a single down the left field line to take a 4-3 lead. Scott Shields bloop single to center field plated two runs for the Roadrunners, increasing their lead to, 6-3.

WPU came back with two runs in the sixth inning. With two outs, Pasternak singled to left field allowing Mike Sasso to score while the throw coming in from the outfield sailed high over third base and into the WPU dugout, allowing Mike Abate to score on the play. WPU now only trailed by one run, 6-5.

In the seventh inning, the Pioneers would once again tie the game. Following two outs, Brady Pevny beat out an infield single to third base before Jimmy Kenny laced a double to left field, allowing Pevny to come around with the game tying run.

Neither team could push a run across in the final three innings before the game was called.

Pasquale LaBracio started on the mound for the Roadrunners. He worked the first 5.2 innings, striking out six and walked three. Mark Doyle came in for relief in the sixth. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered two hits over the final 3.1 innings.

Venturino collected three hits on five at bats while Garcia, Werr and Paulus all tallied two hits a piece for the Roadrunners.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Field when they host the College of Staten Island at 4:00pm.
