BASEBALL SPLITS AT RICHARD STOCKTON

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pomona, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team split with NJAC rival Richard Stockton College today. The Ospreys won the first game, 11-8, while Ramapo came back to win the second, 7-3.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they host #10/15 Rowan University in the second NJAC doubleheader of the weekend. The first game will begin at 11:30am.

In game one, the Ospreys took a 1-0 lead after the first inning before Ramapo took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. John Capuano drove home two RBI with a single to center field.

Stockton came back to score two runs in the second and fourth innings, taking a 5-2 lead. They would extend their lead to 10-2, after a five-run sixth inning. Ramapo got one run back in the top of the seventh as Kyle Skoog drove home Jose Garcia from third base with a sacrifice fly, 10-3.

The Ospreys added one more run to their lead, 11-3 in teh bottom of the eighth before Ramapo came back with five runs in the top ninth inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Peter Petrosino drove home Scott Shields with an infield single. Capuano and Petrosino then scored on an infield error. Stockton was able to turn a key 4-6-3 double-play to get the first two outs of the inning, Skoog scored on the play, cutting the Osprey lead to, 11-8. Matt Poinsett was able to get a strikeout, for the final out of the game to end the Ramapo threat.

Thomas Portesy (2-1) took the loss for the Roadrunners. He worked the first 4.1 innings, striking out three, walking two and scattering five hits. He gave up five runs (two earned).

In game two, Nick Thorgersen (2-0) went the distance on the mound for the Roadrunners in the win. He scattered five hits while striking out three and walking two. He gave up three runs (one earned). Ramapo recorded 13 hits in the game, scoring seven runs. Joe Venturino led off the game with a single to left field before he was sacrificed to second and advanced to third on an infield ground out. Ian Osterman drove home Venturino with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

Stockton took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first before Ramapo took the lead for good in the fourth inning. Skoog drove home Capuano with a single down the right field line before Ryan Levine earned a sac fly RBI as Venturino scored, 3-2. The Roadrunners added two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings to take a 7-2 lead. In the 7th, Shields drove home Ryan Rinsky with a single before Garcia scored on a wild pitch. In the 8th, Levine ripped a double to left field before being lifted for pinch runner Ryan Fallon. Fallon later scored on Scott Peschiani's single up the middle. Peschiani stole second before Rinsky smacked a double down the right field line to pick up the RBI.

The Ospreys got one run back in the bottom of the ninth, 7-3, before Thorgersen induced a infield pop fly for the final out of the game. Venturino was 2-3 with two walks and two runs scored while Peschiani, Rinsky and Garcia all collected two hits and scored one run in the game.
