Box Score Wayne, NJ: In their first conference match-up of the season, the Ramapo College baseball team posted a tough 6-3 loss to the Pioneers of William Paterson University today on the road. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 10-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference. William Paterson improves to 6-8, 1-0 NJAC. The two teams will meet again tomorrow, April 4th, at 3:30pm in Mahwah.
Ramapo got on the scoreboard, plating the first run of the game in the 1st inning, when sophomore
Joe Venturino ripped a ball up the middle, and junior
Scott Peschiani followed with a double to left-center, driving in Venturino for a 1-0 lead. William Paterson responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning taking a three-run advantage with the four runs coming on four hits. K.C. Abel and Mike Abate each scored for the Pioneers in the 5th inning extending the lead to 6-1. Ramapo would get two runs across the plate twice in the top of the 9th, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Pioneers, 3-6.
Chris Werr pinch hit and ripped a double, before
Jose Garcia later drove him in on an RBI double.
Haughney went 2-4 with an RBI and Abel drove in two runs, while Anthony DeEsposito improves to 2-0 on the year, striking out five and letting up three hits in 7.0 innings pitched.
Scott Peschiani was 2-4 and drove in a runner for the Roadrunners. Junior
Kyle Doerr gave up four runs and four hits in 2.2 innings, striking out three and walking one (0-3). Venturino went 1-4 with one run while Werr hit 1-1 and scored a run of his own.
