Box Score 2 Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden University today at Campbell's Field in a conference doubleheader, 6-4, and 9-4.
The Scarlet Raptors (26-9-1) win the NJAC regular season baseball crown with a 14-4 league mark. They will host #6 William Paterson (13-19-1, 7-10-1 NJAC) on Tuesday afternoon at Campbell's Field at 3:30pm
The Roadrunners (20-15-1 overall, 6-11-1 NJAC) return to action in the final regular season game on Monday afternoon at Western Connecticut State University at 3:30pm. Ramapo will now wait to see if they earned a bid to the 2014 ECAC Baseball Tournament, when the bracket is announced on the afternoon of May 5th.
In game one, Ramapo got on the board first with one run in the top of the first inning.
Jose Garcia reached on a fielding error before moving to second on a sac bunt and later scored on
Chris Werr's sac fly down the left field line, 1-0.
Camden scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third. Adrian Gonzalez ripped a three-RBI double down left field line, 3-1.
Ramapo scored two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to take, 4-3 lead.
Kevin Kelly singled home two RBI in the fourth allowing Werr and
Scott Peschiani to come around and score. Peschiani scored again in the fifth with two outs on a Scarlet Raptor error.
Rutgers-Camden would score three runs with two outs in the eighth inning to come back and take the game, 6-4. Brett Tenuto drove home two runs with a single to center.
Harry Sturgis started the game for the Scarlet Raptors, striking out one, walking two and scattering eight hits over six innings of work. He was lifted for Dashon Jones, who earned the win in relief. He struck out four, including the final out of the game and scattered two hits over the final three innings of work.
For the Roadrunners,
Kevin Lee (3-3) worked the first 7.2 innings of the game before being lifted for
Mark Doyle in the eighth inning. Lee struck out four, walked eight and scattered nine hits. Doyle worked out of the eighth inning jam, surrendering one hit.
In game two, Rutgers-Camden scored four runs in the third and two runs in the sixth to take a, 6-3, lead before they added three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits.
Ryan Rinsky drove home Peschiani with a single before Garcia drove home Kelly with a RBI fielder's choice, 2-0.
The Scarlet Raptors scored four runs in the third, 4-2, before Ramapo added one run in the fifth to come within one, 4-3. A bases loaded single from Kelly, plated
Ian Osterman. Osterman was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
Rutgers-Camden scored two runs in the sixth, extending their lead, 6-3, before Ramapo added one run in the 8th.
James Hardgrove drove home Capuano with the team's final run of the game on an infield ground out, 6-4. The Scarlet Raptors added three runs to their lead in the bottom of the eighth for a, 9-4 score.
Kyle Doerr (0-4) started the game on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out one and scattered two hits over the first 2.1 innings. Doyle came in for relief, he walked four and surrendered two hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Pasquale LaBracio worked the final two innings for the Roadrunners, he struck out two and walked two.
Garcia finished the game, 3-5 with one RBI while Werr finished 3-4. Kelly and Osterman each collected two hits in the game.
