Box Score Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team bounced back from a tough loss a day ago to defeat NJAC rival New Jersey City University, 10-2, on the road. Ramapo now stands at 20-13-1 overall, 6-9-1 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 10-21 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
Ramapo scored two runs in the first three inning to take a, 2-0 lead. In the top of the first inning,
Jose Garcia ripped a double down the left field line before moving to second when
Garrett Luna walked.
Joe Venturino moved both runners up one base with a sac bunt before
Chris Werr drove home Garcia with a sac fly to center field, 1-0.
In the third inning, Garcia once again led off the inning, this time with a triple deep to center field, he later scored on Luna's sac fly to right-center field, 2-0. NJCU scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to come within one, 2-1. Zach Buchholtz walked and later came around on Taylor Born's hard single up the middle.
In the sixth, the Roadrunners added three runs on four hits, extending their lead, 5-1. Back-to-back doubles by
Kevin Kelly and
Scott Shields, scored the first run of the inning before Garcia ripped a single to center, plating Shields. The bases were loaded with one out for
Ian Osterman who lifted a sac fly to left-center, plating Garcia for the final run of the inning. Ramapo added one run in the seventh when
Scott Peschiani led off with a triple and scored on Paulus' sac fly to center field for a 6-1 lead.
Nick D'Errico scored the Gothic Knights second run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Born drove home D'Errico with an infield ground out to come within four, 6-2.
The Roadrunners added four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Werr drove home Venturino with an RBI double before he later scored on an infield error by the Gothic Knights. Kelly then drove in two RBI with a single, allowing Peschiani and
John Capuano to score, 10-2.
Walker Larson (5-2) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out six and walked two while he scattered nine hits over eight innings of work.
Mark Doyle was able to get the final three outs for the Roadrunners in the ninth, including two strikeouts.
Garcia finished 3-6 with three runs scored and one RBI while Shields went 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Venturino, Peschiani and Kelly each collected two hits a piece.
The Roadrunners will play their final NJAC doubleheader of the season tomorrow afternoon at Rutgers-Camden University at 11:30am.
