WALKER LEADS RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK, 2-1

Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University today, 2-1, at Jeff Maund Field. With the win the Roadrunners improve to 18-9-1 overall, 6-5-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 10-20 overall, 4-8 in the conference.

In the fourth inning, Ramapo scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Scott Peshiani drove in Joe Venturino with a sac fly before Kevin Kelly singled home Ian Osterman.

The Scarlet Raiders got one back in the top of the sixth inning to come within one, 1-2. Ryan MacFarland led off the inning with a single before stealing second base. He stole third base and was able to come around and score as the throw from the catcher sailed wide of third base.

In the top of the ninth inning, Mike Murray singled through the right side of the infield with one out before being lifted for pinch runner Jason McCluskey. Walker Larson then induced a ground out  to first and a line out to third base to end the game. Walker (4-2) earned his fourth win of the season, he struck out five and scattered four hits.

Shields went 2-2 at the plate for Ramapo while Kevin Kelly, Ryan Rinsky, Osterman and Jose Garcia each collected one hit.

Andrew Nasti took the loss for the Scarlet Raiders. He struck out one and walked two while scattering six hits.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to NJAC rival Kean University at 11:30am.
