Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC double header today at Jeff Maund Field against rival the College of New Jersey, 9-4, in game one and, 7-1, in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 17-8-1 overall, 5-4-1 in the NJAC while the Lions drop to 16-9 overall, 4-5 in the conference.
In game one,
Kevin Lee started on the mound for the Roadrunners and worked 8.2 innings, striking out 11 while the Ramapo came back and scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain an, 8-4 lead. In the first inning, Ramapo took a, 1-0, lead as
John Capuano drove home
Chris Werr with a single to left field. In the third, Werr drove home
Joe Venturino with a single down the right field with two outs to take a 2-0 lead. Venturino singled to left field and stole second earlier in the inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, Mike Murray walked advanced to second on a ground out and later scored on a ball that was misplayed up the middle. In the sixth, TCNJ took a, 4-2, lead. Anthony Cocuzza drove home John Rizzi with a single before Josh Limon picked up an RBI with a ground out to first. Garen Turner then scored on a wild pitch to take the lead.
Ramapo responded with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Ryan Rinsky led off with a double before Rob DeAngelis and
John Capuano reached on back-to-back Lion errors to load the bases. Garcia then drove home two with a double to left field to tie the game at four.
Scott Shields and Venturino recorded back-to-back run scoring singles before Rinsky singled to left field scoring two runs for the 8-4 lead. In the eighth, Ramapo added one run, extending their lead, 9-4.
Kyle Skoog ripped a double down the right field line, as pinch runner
Ryan Fallon came around to touch home plate.
The Lions loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning before relief pitcher
Mark Doyle was able to get the final out and end the game with a ground out to shortstop. Doyle earned his first save of the season, facing two batters in the ninth. The first three batters in the Ramapo lineup finished a combined, 6-13 with four runs scored and four RBI.
In game two, Garcia singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning. He stole second before moving to third on Venturino's single through the infield. Osterman then drove Garcia home with an infield single, 1-0. In the third, the Roadrunners added two runs for a, 3-0, lead. Werr drove home Shields with a single to left field before
Scott Peschiani drove home Osterman with a single to right-center field.
TCNJ added one run in the seventh when Mike Murry ripped a single up the middle to score Garen Turner. Ramapo added two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings, extending their lead to, 7-1.
Ramapo's
Walker Larson (3-2) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo, working the first 6.1 innings. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered only four hits. Doyle came in for relief to earn his second save of the day, striking out the final batter of the game. He struck out four and gave up no hits in 2.2 innings of relief.
Garcia was 3-5 with two runs scored and Osterman was 2-3 with three RBI and one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Drew University in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 15th at 3:30pm.
