BASEBALL BLANKS MSU, 9-0

Box Score Montclair, NJ: Junior Nick Thorgersen tossed a four-hit shutout as the Ramapo College baseball team defeated rival Montclair State University, 9-0 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The two teams meet again at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah, NJ on Friday, April 11 at 3:30 pm.

Sophomore Joe Venturino had two hits and drove in three runs for the Roadrunners (15-7-1, 3-3-1 NJAC), who won their third straight and for the fourth time in their last five games.

Senior Jose Garcia singled up the middle to lead off the top of the first inning before advancing to second on an infield ground out and to third on a pass ball. Venturino then drove him in with a RBI line out to left field with the eventual game winning run. Ramapo added single runs in the second and third innings to take a, 3-0 lead. In the second, Scott Peschiani drove home Chris Werr with a double to left field before Venturino once again drove home Garcia with a single.

In the seventh, the Roadrunners added four runs on only one hit as MSU committed three errors in the inning. Ramapo added two more runs in the top of the ninth, extending their lead, 9-0. In the ninth, Ian Osterman and Werr collected back-to-back run scoring singles.

Thorgersen raised his record to, 3-0, on the year in the shutout win. He struck out three and walked none.

Garcia finished 3-5 with three runs scored while Werr was 2-5 with one RBI and Peschiani was 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
