BASEBALL EARNS 4-3 WIN IN 11 INNINGS

Box Score Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Benedictine University today, 4-3, in 11 innings. The Roadrunners close out the RussMatt Invitational with a 7-3 record, and 8-3 overall while the Eagles fall to 2-8 on the season.

Ramapo scored in the top of the first inning as Scott Shields laced an RBI single to right field, scoring Scott Peschiani, who reached on a double to lead off the inning, 1-0.

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, 1-1 on a RBI single before they took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. The Roadrunners tied the game at two all when Peschiani doubled to left center field and with two outs Joe Venturino drove a pitch into left field, scoring Peschiani, 2-2.

It wasn't until the 11th inning when Ramapo broke through for two runs to take a, 4-2 lead. Kyle Skoog doubled down the left field line before Scott Paulus singled to right and Chris Werr walked to load the bases with one out. Jose Garcia then took the second pitch he saw and drove a double over the left fielder's head to score Skoog and Paulus.

In the bottom of the 11th, the Eagles got one run back before Ramapo's Walker Larson came in for relief and struck out the final batter of the game for the 4-3 win.

Nicholas Thorgersen started on the mound for the Roadrunners, working the first six innings. He struck out four and walked two while scattering seven hits. Kyle Doerr worked 1/3 of an inning, inducing a pop up to second base with runners on first and third and nobody out. Mark Doyle (2-0) earned the win on the mound, working 4.1 innings. He struck out two while only giving up two hits. Walker Larson earned his second save of the season, striking out the only batter he faced.

Ramapo pounded out 14 hits in the game as Peschiani, Shields and Garrett Luna all collected two hits a piece.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, March 27th when they travel to Lehman College for a non-conference game at 5pm.
