PAULUS LEADS RAMAPO OVER ENDICOTT, 7-5

Box Score Auburndale, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team came back to defeat Endicott with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, 7-5. The Roadrunners improve to 6-2 overall while the Gulls even their record at 2-2.

With the score knotted at five heading into the bottom of the eighth inning the Roadrunners scored two runs to take a 7-5 lead. With one out, Kevin Kelly singled up the middle before being lifted for pinch runner Zach Carroll. Carroll stole second before Scott Paulus laced a single deep down the right field line, allowing Carroll to come around and score the eventual game winning run. Jose Garcia singled to right field before John Capuano beat out an infield single to third base. The throw sailed high allowing Paulus to race home for an insurance run, 7-5.

Endicott scored four runs in the top of the third inning before Ramapo got three back in the bottom half of the inning. Joe Venturino singled home Capuano from third base before Ian Osterman ripped double to left center field, allowing Scott Shields and Venturino to come around to score, coming within one, 3-4. Shields reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

The Gulls scored one run in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead before Ramapo scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at five all. In the sixth, Venturino ripped a single down the right field line, scoring Shields who smacked a doubled earlier in the inning.

Venturino and Osterman each drove home two RBI with two hits a piece while Kelly and Paulus also collected two hits. Capuano went 3-4 with two runs scored.

Kevin Lee started on the mound for the Roadrunners, earning the the no-decision. He worked the first 6.2 innings, striking out six while scattering eight hits.

Mark Doyle (1-0) earned the win on the mound in relief. He worked the final 2.1 innings, striking out three and giving up only one hit.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning against Allegheny College in a double header beginning at 9am.
