ROADRUNNERS SWEEP RIPON, 6-5 & 7-4

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team improved to 3-1 this afternoon with a double header sweep of Ripon College, 6-5 and 7-4.

Ripon took a 2-0 lead after two innings before the Roadrunners scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead.

Ian Osterman and Chris Werr led off the inning with a single and double before Scott Shields knocked home Osterman with a single of his own. Ryan Rinsky and Kyle Skoog each collected RBI singles later in the inning to put the Roadrunners up, 3-2. In the fourth, Ramapo tacked on another three runs to take a 6-2 lead. Ripon got one run in the fifth and two in the sixth before Kyle Doerr and the Ramapo defense were able to get out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh. Rinsky threw out a runner trying to steal third base on a ball in the dirt to end the game with the 6-5 victory.

Werr led the team at the plate going 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Shields went 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI while Skoog went 2-3 with one RBI. Walker Larson earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners, he struck out three and scattered nine hits over five innings of work and surrendering five runs. Kyle Doerr earned the save on the mound, striking out the only batter he faced in the seventh.

In game two, Ripon once again scored first, this time as the home team in the bottom of the first inning. Ramapo tied the game with single runs in the second and third innings before taking the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning, 6-2. John Capuano singled and stole second base before advancing to third on an infield ground out. With two outs, Joe Venturino ripped a RBI double, scoring Capuano. Osterman was hit by a pitch before Werr smacked a RBI double, allowing Venturino and Osterman to cross home plate. Werr also scored on the play, as the throw coming in from the outfield was misplayed.

Ramapo tacked on one run in the fifth inning before Ripon scored one run in the bottom half of the fifth and seventh innings. Ramapo held Ripon to the lone run as they got a strikeout swinging to end the game and the 7-4 victory. Ramapo belted out 12 hits in the game. Scott Paulus went 4-4 with one run scored while Werr finished the game with three RBIs, going 1-3 with one run scored. Venturino collected two hits and scored two runs while knocking in one RBI.

Tom Portesy earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He went 5.0 innings of work, scattered six hits and gave up three runs, two earned. Tyler Curto game in for relieve in the sixth inning. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered just three hits in 1.2 innings of work. Pasquale LaBracio earned the save. He faced two batters in the seventh and struck out the final Ripon hitter to close the door.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they take on Denison University at 4:30pm.
