Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival Ramapo College today at the Bradley Center, 76-61. The Profs improve to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the NJAC.
The Profs had four players score in double figures in the game with Mike Simpson leading the way with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ike Robinson recorded 16 points while Chris Gross and Dan Brogan each added ten points apiece. For the game, the Profs shot 53% (28-52) from the field and 63% (17-27) from the foul line.
After a basket from Rowan's Mike Simpson to start the game, the Roadrunners connected seven straight points to take a five-point, 7-2 lead with 16:43 on the clock. Rowan responded with a mini 5-1 run to come with one, 7-8, with a three-point goal from Josh Borrelli. Ramapo would stay on top and spread their lead to 19-14 with a basket from
Josh Ford at 6:14, but a three-point goal from Simpson just over thirty seconds later, closed the gap to just two points with Ramapo ahead, 19-17. Just over two minutes later, another three-point basket from Simpson would put Rowan on top, 23-21. For the remainder of the half, the Profs would keep the lead, heading into the locker room with a one-point, 27-26 advantage over the Roadrunners.
Simpson led the Profs with nine points hitting 3-8 from the field and 2-4 from behind the three-point arc, while Ike Robinson chipped in seven points of his own. The Profs went 10-26 (39%) as a team.
Thomas Bonacum led the Roadrunners with eights points and
Ve'Shawn Polite added seven, as the team dropped 11-28 (39%). Frank Knock dished out four assists and grabbed one steal in the half.
The Profs came out of halftime sinking the first two baskets, both coming from Kris O'Connor, to jump ahead 31-26, forcing a Ramapo timeout. The Profs would go up, 39-26, before Polite got the Roadrunners on the board in the half with a jump shot at 15:28. Rowan went on an 8-2 run to take a 17-point lead, 47-30, with 11:58 on the clock. The Roadrunners were able to cut the lead to nine, 40-49, with just under ten minutes to play in the game with a made basket from
George Sapp. Over the next four minutes the Profs extended their lead to 17 with 5:22 to play on a jumper from Gross before they took their biggest lead of the game, 68-48, with 3:24 on the clock. The Profs never led their lead shrink below 15 points in the final three minutes of the game. The Roadrunners tallied the final points of the game when
Ron Taylor made a jumper and was fouled with 11 seconds on the clock, 61-75.
For the Roadrunners, Polite led the team with 12 points while Bonacum added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Josh Ford added seven points while
Frank Nock tallied seven points and four assists. The Roadrunners shot 39% (23-58) from the field and 59% from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, November 25th when they take on NJAC rival William Paterson University at 7:30pm at the Bradley Center.
