RAMAPO WINS ROADRUNNER TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated Washington College (MD), 62-53, in the Championship Game of the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament. The Roadrunners improve to 2-0 overall while the Shorewomen now stand at 1-1 on the season.
 
In the Consolation Game, Brooklyn College (1-1) defeated Saint Joseph's College - LI (0-2), 69-44. The Bulldogs were led by Nicole Francomano who scored 15 points while Vanessa D'Ambrosi and Megan Campbell each tallied 13 points of their own. Nacirema Mann added ten points while Campbell posted a double-double with ten rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 38% from the field and grabbed 57 rebounds. The Golden Eagles were led by Rynese Smith who tallied 12 points while Jennifer Gubell scored 11 points of her own. The team shot 20% from the field and 66% from the foul line while they grabbed 36 rebounds
 
In the Championship game, Jackie Jerkovich put the Roadrunners ahead 3-0 (18:08) with a three-pointer off a pass from I'india Davenport. Washington College tied the game, 3-3, with a three of their own by Ali Grundy (17:26). Grace Elliott put the Roadrunners up one, 7-6, with a basket (14:54) before the Shorewomen went on a 7-2 run, taking a four point lead, 13-9 with 9:52 on the clock. A mini 5-2 run by Ramapo shrunk the lead to one, 14-25 (8:20) before Jackie O'Connell made a three pointer for Washington College, 18-14 (7:51). The Roadrunner came back with a 6-5 run capped off with a made jumper from Kerrie Kosakowski, tying the game at 23 with 3:45 on the clock. The Shorewomen made a pair of foul shots before Elliott hit the final basket of the half for the Roadrunners with 1:33 on the clock to tie the game at 25 all. Washington College scored the final three points of the first half, taking a 28-25 lead into halftime.
 
Jerkovich led the Roadrunners in the first half with 11 points, including two three-pointers. Elliott tallied eight points while Bintou Berete led the team with six rebounds.
 
Emily Hubley led the Shorewomen in the first half with eight points while Carley Kendall tallied seven of her own. Daniela Falcone posted four rebounds and four points.
 
Kosakowski opened the second half with a made three pointer to tie the game, 28-28, before the Roadrunners took a four point lead, 32-28, with a made basket from Jerkovich.  The Shorewomen went on a mini 6-2 run, capped off by an Ali Ruddy three-pointer to take a two point lead, 42-40, with 8:22 on the clock before Ramapo regained the lead, 45-42, with a 5-0 run of their own. Ramapo extended their lead to five with 5:07 on the clock with a made foul shot by Elliott before they went up seven with 2:42 left in the game with a made jumper from Crawford, 55-48. Down the stretch the Shorewomen cut the lead to five with 41 seconds on the clock before the Roadrunners stretched the lead to nine with the final points of the game coming from Lane on two foul shots, 62-53.
 
Ramapo got 13 points off the bench while they were led by Elliott with 16 points. Jerkovich tallied 15 points, including two three-pointers while Kosakowski and Lane each scored nine points. Berete led the team with 14 rebounds while Kosakowski grabbed eight of her own. The team shot 40% from the field (18-45) while they shot 74% (23-31) from the charity stripe.
 
For the Shorewomen, Kendall and Grundy each scored 12 points while Hubley added ten points of her own and grabbed a team leading six rebounds. The team shot 25% from the field (17-67) and 62% from the charity stripe (10-16).
 
The Roadrunners return to action on November 19th when they host Centenary College at 5:30pm.
