Dover, Del: The Ramapo College men's basketball team opened the 2014-2015 season with a 69-62 victory over Welsey College, on the road in Delaware. Behind 18 points from
Markese Tucker, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 start to the year. Wesley falls to 0-1.
A late surge from the Roadrunners in the second half sealed the deal as Ramapo came out on top by seven points. Tucker shot 9-16 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds, while
Frank Nock collected 17 points of his own.
Christopher Moseley netted 12 points and Nock dished out a team leading five assists, while
Thomas Bonacum pulled down a team high ten rebounds in the season opening win. The Roadrunners went 22-44 (50%) as a team, shooting ahead of the Wolverines' 20-60 (33%).
Ramapo led by as many as 12 in the first half of play. The 34-22 lead coming with 2:05 left, when Nock hit two free throws. The Roadrunners wrapped up the first half with a 36-26 advantage over Wesley. In the opening of the final half of play, Wesley connected two three-point goals to close the gap to four, 32-36 with 17:22 on the clock. The Wolverines continued to chip away at Ramapo's lead, taking over the advantage at 11:06, with a basket from Anthony Bowers, 44-43. The two teams traded baskets, and the lead, for the next eight minutes, until a free throw from JW Lawson tied the game at 60 at the 3:09 minute mark. Down the stretch, the Roadrunners out scored Wesley, 9-2, for a 13-3 run to close the game, 69-62 over Wesley.
Wayne Lennon led Wesley with 15 points and AJ Tilghman collected 11, as Lennon picked up three assists and three blocks in the loss.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, November 19th when they host CSI at 7:30pm at the Bradley Center.
