Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunner men's soccer team wrapped up the 2014 season today with a 2-4 loss to the Cougars of Kean University, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Athletic Center. Ramapo wraps up the year at 8-9-2 overall, 1-7-1 in the conference, while the Cougars improve to 11-7-1 overall, 5-4 in the conference, and await news on a NJAC Championship bid.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when a ball from Kevin Olaya landed on the head of rookie Sevag Kherlopian, who scored his team leading 8th goal of the year. The Roadrunners knotted the game just under three minutes later when
Luke Giegerich ripped a shot, upper ninety, past the diving Cougar net minder. The goal was assisted by senior
Dan Boffa. Kean once again took a lead with 4:44 to play in the half off a free kick from 25 yards out. before Kenny Rocha took a pass from Michael Vargas to put the Cougars up, 3-1 with 3:36 on the clock, a score that stood until the halftime buzzer.
The Cougars led Ramapo in shots, 9-5 in the first 45 minutes of play. Matthew Hernendez made four saves in the half and Brad Watkins collected two.
In the 73rd minute, it was Patrick Foley who put the Cougars up by three goals, before Ramapo's rookie
Kevin Villanueva closed the gap, 2-4 at 81:32 off an assist from
Lucas Tasci. The goal wasn't enough as the Cougars defeated the Roadrunners 4-2 in their final game of the 2014 season.
The Cougars out shot Ramapo 16-12 in the game, while Ramapo was held to no corner kicks. The Cougars recorded four on the day.
