COLONIALS GET RAMAPO IN OVERTIME

Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team played host to the Colonials of Western Connecticut today in a non-conference match-up where they fell just short in overtime, 2-3.  With the loss the Roadrunners are yet to record a win, falling to 0-3 on the year.  Western Connecticut improves to 2-1.
 
Kim Gigante took a pass from Jenny Cappello just under six minutes into the overtime period to give the Colonials the non-conference victory in Mahwah.  It was Gigante's third goal of the season.
 
At the start of the game, the Colonials got on the board at 13:22 when Rachel Duffy laid the ball to Lauren Allan who ripped a shot past the Ramapo goaltender to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Rookie Nicole Healy put Ramapo on the board with just under two minutes to play in the first half off a pass from Christina Bacino to knot the game at one goal apiece.
 
Western Connecticut held a slight edge in shots, 4-3 in the first half.
 
Alicia Lyons made two saves in cage for Ramapo while Kristy Trotta made two for the Colonials.
 
In the second half, the Colonials again got on the board first when Gigante took a pass again from Cappello hitting the back of the cage at 37:01.
 
The Roadrunners tied up the game at 61:05 when Danisleydis Hernandez ripped a unassisted goal past Trotta.
 
The Colonials held a 4-1 advantage in shots in the second half and 3-0 in the overtime period, while Lyons made an additional three saves in the second half and one in overtime.
 
Trollt finished the game with two saves.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, September 13th when they host New Paltz at 4pm.
