Lucas Tasci led the Ramapo College men's soccer team today as they wrapped up the 2013 President's Cup with a 3-0 victory over the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, earning the championship crown. Ramapo improves to 1-0-1 overall on the year while the Bloodhounds fall to 0-2.
The Roadrunners got on the board in the first half of play when rookie
Cristian Trujillo took a pass from Tasci, hitting the back of the net at 41:26. Ramapo jumped out to a quick start in the second half of play as Tasci again dished off a ball, this time to
Andrew Kirshteyn, giving the Roadrunners a two-goal advantage at 45:56. Tasci posted the hat trick in assists dishing a ball to sophomore
Rob Shalikar, in the 88
th minute of play, wrapping up the 3-0 shut out win.
Ramapo outshot the Bloodhounds, 12-3 in the first half while holding a 14-1 advantage in the final half of play. Senior netminder
Steve Monaghan recorded the shut out with two saves in the net for Ramapo.
In the first game of the day, the Engineers of Rhode Island College outlasted the Lions of The College of New Jersey in a 2-1 overtime victory. The Lions got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Kevin Shaw at 42:57 off an assist from Sean Casey. The one goal held until the halftime buzzer where TCNJ held a slight edge in shots, 5-4.
The Engineers tied up the game with about 15 minutes to play in regulation when Anderson Monteiro laid the ball to Kwasi Boateng to knot the game at 1-1. The buzzer sounded with the two teams tied at one goal each forcing overtime play. The Lions again held an advantage in shots, this time, 4-1.
In the overtime period, Emmanuel Asiedu capitalized on a penalty kick giving the Engineers the 2-1 victory in Mahwah.
Aaron Utman and Maciej Libucha combined efforts in the net for the Lions tallying three saves, while Chris Moura gets the win for Rhode Island making seven saves.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, September 4
th when they host FDU-Florham at 4pm at the Athletic Center.
