Box Score Wayne, NJ: The William Paterson University baseball team rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game, 6-5 and sweep the home-and-home series from Ramapo College today. The Pioneers improve to 14-5, 4-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 14-3, 2-2 in the conference.
WPU led 2-0 after three innings of play before Ramapo tied the game in the top of the sixth inning.
Chris Werr walked before being advanced to second by a sac bunt from
Joe Venturino.
Zach Carroll then ripped a double to the left field wall, allowing Werr to come around to score. Carroll later scored on
Ryan Rinsky's hard hit single to centerfield to tie the game at two all.
Ramapo would take a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh as Spurr ripped a double to the right-centerfield gap, driving home
John Capuano, 3-2. Spurr later scored on a fielder's choice for the 4-2 lead.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at four. Ramapo went up, 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning when
Kevin Case scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Case reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. In the bottom of the ninth, WPU led off with a single from pinch hitter Mike Arnold before being lifted for pinch runner Timmy O'Shea. Following an out, Ryan Gibbons singled down the right field line before Ptaszynski worked a walk to load the bases with one out. Guillod then ripped the second pitch he saw down the left field line for a double as the tying and game winning runs came around to score for the 6-5 win.
For Ramapo,
PJ Cerreto (2-1) took the loss, he struck out 11 and walked five over 8.1 innings of work.
For the Pioneers, Adam Miller (1-1) earned the win in relief, working the final 2.2 innings.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they host NJAC rival Richard Stockton College at 11:30am.
