RAMAPO FALLS IN FINAL GAME OF REGULAR SEASON, 8-7

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The #19/21 Ramapo College baseball team fell short in their comeback against non-conference foe Western Connecticut State University today at Jeff Maund Field.

The Roadrunners fell to the Colonials, 8-7, and now stand at 25-12-1 overall heading into the NJAC Tournament. The Colonials improve to 14-21 overall.

The Colonials were able to hold off a late rally by the Roadrunners in the ninth inning. The score was 8-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth before the Roadrunners added one run. Christian Spurr led off the inning with a single through the infield before Chris Werr singled to right field to put the game winning run at the plate. Following one out, Brandon Berger laced a single to right center allowing Spurr to come home, 8-7, while Werr, the game tying run advanced to third base. The Colonials starting pitcher then induced a game ending double play to secure the road win.

CJ Sousa went the distance on the mound, striking out seven and walking five while surrendering 12 hits by the Roadrunners. James Russell was 3-3 with three runs scored, including two triples and a double while Chris Alberto was 3-4 with one run scored. Alberto also became Western Connecticut's all time hit's leader with his infield single in the second inning.

The Colonials scored three runs in the first inning before Ramapo scored two of their own in the bottom of the first. Kevin Kelly drove home two runs with a double down the left field line, shrinking the Colonial lead, 3-2. WestConn went ahead, 4-2 after the top of the second before Ramapo came back to tie the game with two runs in the third inning, 4-4.

WestConn scored an unearned run in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead while they scored single runs in the fifth, sixth to go ahead, 7-4 lead. Ramapo came back with one run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning, 7-6 before WestConn added one run in the top of the eighth to go up, 8-6.

Spurr was 4-5 with three runs scored while Werr was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI and Kelly was 2-5 with three RBI.

The Roadrunners earned the #5 seed in the NJAC Tournament and will travel to rival #2 William Paterson University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm for the first round game.
